Walk.... Don't Walk!

When trying to safely cross the intersection in route to Thumb Plaza
one must often "not walk" when it says "Walk" and "walk" when it says "Don't Walk"
Notice how close the cars will get to pedestrians and children...

Here is our view of this same intersection.

The past two weeks have been difficult for Jim, as he was sick with a flu bug that affected almost everyone who rides his shuttle bus to the island where his office is. He came home shivering with a 102 fever on the worst day and spent most of the weekend resting. Therefore our lives have been pretty quiet lately as we settle into the routine of our Shanghai lives.  This is why my photos this week are from our neighborhood.

Because we did not get to do anything exciting (although crossing the street here is quite exhilarating as you can see) I got a little home sick over the weekend. My homesickness is due to the fact that my birthday is coming up next week and I always get a little sad if I do not get to see my family for that event. It is silly, but having a homemade cherry pie is a pretty fabulous birthday tradition that is next to impossible to duplicate in this country. So I suppose, it is time to start a new tradition!

Since Jim is feeling better, I’m sure we will find some fun way to celebrate both Easter and my birthday this coming weekend.

Settling into a routine in Shanghai means letting our Ayi spend more time with Jameson so that I may have the luxury of practicing on my own, learning the language or even just going for a walk. This week Ayi has begun taking Jameson to our outdoor play area in our apartment complex. Jameson sees lots of kids his own age at the playground and he loves to throw rocks, run around and all the while Ayi is counting with him and teaching him Mandarin basics.

Looking down on Ayi and Jameson as they walk to the playground in our complex.

We are on the 22nd floor and NO Jameson is not allowed on this patio by himself and it is impossible for him to open the doors by himself. Even if he could open the doors (which he cannot) Jameson is never left alone here. Our apartment is almost impossible to child proof. Thus the need for a nanny!  Please do not worry about Jameson's safety all of you fabulous Mother and Grandmother types!

Home sweet home!

Life is good here, it is not easy, but it is good!
