One month ago today...

We left our home in Pleasant Hill with only five suitcases and a guitar in pursuit of a new life together as a family in Shanghai. I am surprised at how much we are enjoying our new home and all of the amenities this country has to offer.

I never thought that there would be so many benefits to living here. For example, our apartment is larger than our house in California and it has two bathrooms, which is a huge luxury. We are grateful for our Ayi who is here to help with housework and childcare. Our location in Pudong is in close proximity to so many things. Here we are at Century Park (the equivalent of NYC’s Central Park) which is just two blocks from our apartment. We are also beginning to make new friends in Shanghai, and for me that makes all the difference in the world (especially when moving to the other side of the world!).

On the weekend we finally got a new mattress thanks to a recommendation on www.shanghaimamas.com which is a yahoo group I joined when we moved here. I cannot explain just what a difference this is making for us. I was taking muscle relaxants just to sleep every night and after icing my back for so long I still have some redness on my back due to frostbite. Jim was not sleeping well either and that makes 14-hour days even more grueling. Needless to say, we are delighted that this mattress is even more comfortable than our temperpedic mattress.

Thanks to all of you who continue to read my blog, e-mail us, call us, skype us and pray for us. Having a continued relationship with my friends at home has made our transition so much more comfortable.
