"How you doin'?"

Jim’s first day at work was my first day on my own in Shanghai. Jameson had not slept for more than 6 hours at a time since we left the States and our Chinese mattress feels more like a box spring, so sleep was completely out of my grasp. Jameson woke up at 6:00 AM and did not take a nap all day. At the time, we did not have any telephone or Internet access. I felt completely isolated and exhausted all day. When Jim came home after his 14-hour workday, I was a mess.

The next morning I began writing a gratitude list. I filled a page of my journal with things that I was grateful for and I have continued to do so every morning since last Monday. It has really helped me appreciate the huge blessings we have in our lives.

My gratitude list often includes fresh croissants, heat (did I mentioned that it snowed here on Tuesday?) and an indoor play area where Jameson and I go almost every day.  Jameson and I love visiting “E-Kids Island” because it is warm, clean, fun and….

A great place to meet the Ladies!

Watch your things, but only momentarily

Jeepers creepers, where’d you get them peepers?

So how are we doing in China?  It has not been easy, but now that we are feeling settled and making friends, Shanghai feels more like home.   Our home in Pleasant Hill, our friends and our family are missed daily, but we enjoy the new things that Shanghai has to offer.   Jameson is feeling more at ease here as well.  As you can see he is making friends quite easily!
